Just Host Reviews
Just Host reviews regularly put it high up in lists of recommended hosts. It is a relatively new hosting service which has grown rapidly over the last two years and now operates in UK, USA, Canada, Australia & Singapore.
Package offered
Just Host offers two shared hosting packages but the only difference between the two is the number of “free” domains included. The basic plan includes 1 and the premium plan includes 3. The company also offers reseller packages. Dedicated server hosting is mentioned frequently in the support section but this seems to be provided through a “preferred partner” company to customers who have outgrown shared hosting. The shared hosting is linux based only.
At the time of writing the Just Host basic package is from $3.45 per month (although I found a coupon code to reduce this to $2.49 – "50off") and the premium package from $6.95 per month. The lowest price is based on paying 48 months in advance.
You can register a domain name as part of the package and this is free as long as you stay with Just Host.
There is a money back guarantee whereby you can cancel at any time and get a refund of the unused proportion of your upfront payment but there is a $20 domain registration fee at this point, although you can keep the domain name.
The package is sold on an “unlimited” basis which includes, bandwidth, storage, domains, databases and email addresses. The Terms of Service are perhaps more detailed on what “Unlimited” means than some other hosts but reading them made me feel that you are very much relying on Just Host to be reasonable and there is little you can do if they are not.
You can pay extra for a number of services including, additional domain names, a dedicated IP address, private SSL certificates, daily backups and domain privacy.
Technical
Just Host offer load balancing technology (site available from multiple servers) and super fast backbone connections, which enables them to claim in excess of 99.9% uptime. A large majority of users seem to agree that the service is good although there are reports of excessive downtime.
Support Service
Support is available 24/7 by phone, chat and email and is generally good and I saw several comments about staff “going the extra mile” to help resolve a problem. On the other hand support was also the issue with quite a few reviewers who said that support staff were unhelpful or not able to resolve the problem.
I can only say that my own experience with Just Host has been positive.
A majority of the Just Hosts reviews by users who are unhappy seem to relate to cancellations, refunds and renewals with some users getting angry that they could not get a full refund. The Terms of Service are quite long but it is only by reading them that you would be aware of the $20 fee for a domain name. Also when you sign up the options say "$x.xx/mo – ($xx.xx Every 24 Months)" but this uses the discounted figures and if you don't see the wording above which says that the discount is for the initial period only, you might be writing negative Just Host reviews come renewal time.
Conclusion
Whilst a free domain name sounds like a good deal that is only the case if you stay with the host for a number of years (i.e. it tends to lock you in). I prefer to keep domain name registration separate from hosting which Just Host advised requires signing up by telephone.
Overall Just Host provides a comprehensive service at a very good price and if you are looking for Linux web site hosting it is worth a try.
